The news is everywhere - sometimes we help you find it, sometimes we make it and sometimes we are it! We're brand new on the block and this is the place where we'll be putting up information about us and where we are in the news. But for now, here are the basics...

What is this Twing?

Twing - yes, it's a search engine, but it's not just any search engine. Twing is dedicated to community search and discovery.

Why Online Communities?

Communities are an idea that began decades ago as bulletin boards. Today, they've evolved into multilayered forums that compose much of the deep Web, where important information often gets lost because traditional search engines can't see it.

Twing's aim is to provide access to the wealth of information flowing through online communities, and to make it easier and faster for users to find.

How do we do this?

  • Search algorithm and technology - Twing doesn't just crawl, it connects. Twing understands the structure of online forums, thereby enabling it to analyze and index information down to the post level and provide highly relevant search results.
  • User interface model - Twing's user-centric information foraging/scent model provides an interface with advanced drill-down tools that make it possible to categorize content though both automatic and manual methods. Customized search results are further enhanced by entity extraction and indexing.
  • Real-time information and analysis - Twing includes cross forum statistics and popularity rankings that enable visitors to uncover the truly deep discussions and learn not only what's happening online, but also where it's happening.

According to Twing Product Manager Scott Germaise, "Blogs and social networking occupy much of the online media's current attention, yet online communities are where a lot of the real, deep and ongoing discussion is happening. The number of topic-specific forums now ranges into the hundreds of thousands, and as an increasing number of small, medium and large businesses use forums to communicate with customers, the potential for sector growth is virtually unlimited."
